A word of caution, anything below $3.00 and you must definitely watch out. In any case, make sure that you ask to see a sample of the chair covers and sashes. Once you do, make sure that the chair covers are not faded from use, no tears, no wine stains from last week's party and most of all, not a tremendous amount of creases as if it just came from the dryer.

Chair Cover Shapes

No two chairs are alike. It is a common misconception to think that all banqueting chairs are alike. In practice there are many manufacturers and many styles and sizes of chairs. This presents a challenge when it comes to renting chair covers.

It is essential that you try on the chair cover before you commit to rent it for your event. Most reputable rental companies will charge you a refundable small deposit to get a single chair cover or two or three chair covers for fitting purposes. Sometimes the company that you are hiring or buying the chair covers from will know the particular chair you are trying to fit and will have a chair cover from their standard range that they know will fit it. They may even have a chair cover that will specifically fit your chair. In this case the best thing is to email the company a picture of your chair cover and if poissible the manufacture's name and the model number of the chair. Your venue should be able to assist with this information. This will help with getting the right sample sent to you but it is still vital to get that sample rather than wait until the night before the event to discover that your chair cover doesn't fit.

Key Chair Cover Shape Elements Affecting Fit The main elements of a chair that affect the fit of a chair cover (apart of course from the size) are the shape of the back and the shape of the chair seat. Chair backs are usually eiher generally square /rectangular with top corners that are right-angled or sometimes rounded. The chairs below show a round back chair on the laft that would take a round back chair cover while the square back chair on the right with rounded top corners would take a square back style chair cover.

Organza Sash Colours

Organza sashes are the most popular sash choice for chair covers and are available in a wide variety of colours. The most popular colours are again white and ivory, with gold, silver, wine, pink, and fuchsia being time honoured favourites. Becoming much more popular in recent years are colours such as lilac and purple with unusual colours such as chocolate, sage and purple rising in popularity over the last year.

Chair Cover Materials

The majority of chair covers are made from 100% polyester fabrics. The reason for this is simple. Polyester can be used to create non iron crease resistant fabrics making them very popular with hire companies and brides alike. Laundered correctly - especially with attention to the drying and folding phase - they can be removed from a chair at the end of a function, washed, dried, folded, and placed in a box for storage ready for immediate deployment weeks later without any need for further pressing or steaming on site.

Also popular is poly-cotton. This fabris is typically made up of between 50% and 70% Polyester with the balance made from cotton. The best PolyCotton fabrics mix the polyester and cotton fibres in the thread before weaving and indeed some make the thread with the majority of the cotton fibres on the outside of the thread giving a very cotton like feel to the fabric while retaining many of the advantages of polyester. This is a great compromise solution which gives a more natural feel to the chair cover while being much easier to launder and store than ordinary cotton. Handled correctly little or no pressing is required although this is very dependant on getting the laundry technique correct.

Pure cotton or even linen fabrics are rarely used now as a good polycotton fabric can equal them for look and feel without having all the laundry and creasing hassle that go along with pure cotton fabrics. Whats more - polycotton tends to 'hang' better than cotton creating more graceful lines and the impression of a better fit. Another issue with pure cottons is that shrinkage on such fabrics is typically 6-8% meaning that a chair cover that fits well can quickly become one that doesn't fit at all. This is especially the case when high temperatures have to be used in the laundry cycle to help with the innevitable stain removal that commonly plagues chair covers.
